Jerry began his career after service in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam during which he received the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster. After serving his country, Jerry attended the University of South Carolina where he studied business.
A life-long resident of Western Pennsylvania, Mr. Davis advanced quickly throughout his “first career” in the supermarket industry. From a humble receiving clerk to the president of the OK Grocery Company, the wholesale division of Giant Eagle Markets (one of the nation’s leading supermarket companies), Mr. Davis developed logistics skills and expertise that enabled him to successfully lead 2,000 employees in building a company with sales in excess of one billion dollars. During his tenure, Mr. Davis was responsible for all distribution, transportation, buying, acquisitions, start-ups and labor relations functions of the corporation. Mr. Davis became nationally recognized in the forward logistics industry. He served as the chairman of the Food Marketing Institute’s Distribution Committee and testified before Congress multiple times on behalf of the food industry. He also was a founding director of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and served on the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Red Cross, Junior Achievement, The Holy Family Institute and several committee positions for the United Way. He was named as a Citizen Ambassador to the Soviet Union by the U.S. State Department.
Years of real-world experience and success positioned him as uniquely qualified to begin his “second career” in 1990 when Mr. Davis founded Scanning Solutions. He recognized that the forward logistics industry was only half of the equation for retailers and manufacturers needing to close the logistics loop by effectively processing or recycling consumer returns and un-saleables. While some companies were beginning to recognize the need for an efficient way to handle returns in the early 1990s, it was Mr. Davis who had the vision to develop a sophisticated software solution and couple it with a solid, third-party logistics operation; making his company the pioneer in the reverse logistics industry. Following Scanning Solutions’ merger with Genco, a small public warehouse company in Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Davis became vice chairman of that company where he was responsible for its development into a world-class provider of reverse logistics services. Under his leadership, the company grew to over six million square feet of warehouse space, achieved over $600,000,000 in sales and had 4,000 employees. His customers were a who’s who list of major retailers and manufacturers in North America.
He currently sits on Boards of Directors and Advisors of companies in industries as diverse as construction and electronic component manufacturing.
